Randy Draftz is a lifelong sailor, marine industry professional, and nationally recognized regatta organizer based in North Charleston, South Carolina. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, he grew up sailing on the Great Lakes and has raced a wide range of boats, from dinghies to maxi yachts. His deep experience on the water has shaped a career focused on helping sailors, race organizers, and marine businesses succeed.
He is the owner of Charleston Yachting and Regatta Management, businesses that provide sailing equipment, rigging services, event management, and consulting for racing and cruising sailors. Through these ventures, Draftz has combined hands-on marine expertise with a practical understanding of logistics, sponsorship, competitor experience, and race administration.
Draftz is best known for his leadership of Charleston Race Week, one of the largest keelboat regattas in the Americas. As Event Director and Race Director, he has helped guide the event’s growth from a regional regatta into a major sailing destination that attracts competitive sailors, volunteers, sponsors, and spectators from across the United States and beyond. His approach emphasizes high-quality race management, accessible competition, strong partnerships, and a welcoming experience for sailors at every level.
In addition to his work with Charleston Race Week, Draftz has served in leadership roles with the Charleston Ocean Racing Association and has contributed to race management at the national level through US Sailing. Across his career, he has been recognized for promoting the sport of sailing, strengthening regatta operations, and supporting the broader sailing community through innovation, mentorship, and service.
