Matteo Lanzavecchia

Born in Varese, Italy in 1970, Matteo Lanzavecchia is a mechanical engineer with more than
25 years’ experience in the automotive sector. A graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the
Politecnico di Milano, Matteo began his career at Alfa Romeo in the field of Vehicle Dynamics,
later working with both Aston Martin and the US-based CART team Newman-Haas. He also
gained significant experience in endurance racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
In 2003, he joined Ferrari Sports Cars as a vehicle development engineer, initially working on
the F430 (the first car to be fitted with both an electronic differential and the iconic Manettino
for vehicle dynamics control). In 2006, he became Head of Vehicle Dynamics and Control
Systems, and in 2009 continued his professional growth at Ferrari as Head of Vehicle Testing
Development and Vehicle Performance.
Since 2014, he has held the position of Head of Sports Cars Vehicle Engineering (and, since
2023, also Deputy Chief R&D Officer), with primary responsibility for leading the technical
definition of the product. He oversees vehicle performance through the integration of key
systems throughout the entire development cycle from the initial concept and architecture
phases through to final model validation.
Matteo has made a strategic and significant contribution to the development of every Ferrari
model produced from 2006 to the present day: from the 458 Italia to the SF90 Stradale, the
F12 to the 12 Cilindri, the FF to the Purosangue, the California to the Roma, and from LaFerrari
to the F80.
In 2022, while continuing to lead the Vehicle Engineering division, Matteo’s innovative vision
led to him being appointed Ferrari Hypersail CTO. His main responsibility in this role is to
ensure a continuous exchange of know-how between the two worlds: Sports Cars and
Hypersail.
With a passion for engineering and performance, Matteo combines technical rigour with
creativity, and contributes, through his overarching vision, to the evolution of the Ferrari range
and to the growth of the team members he leads. These qualities are essential for tackling
Ferrari’s new challenge in high-performance sailing.
