Sam Davies
Offshore Sailor
Sam Davies is one of Britain’s most accomplished offshore sailors, renowned for her determination, technical expertise, and resilience in some of the world’s toughest ocean races.
A mechanical engineering graduate from Cambridge University, Sam has spent more than two decades competing at the highest level of offshore sailing. Her career highlights include a fourth-place finish in the 2008–09 Vendée Globe, multiple editions of the solo round-the-world race, skippering Team SCA in the Volvo Ocean Race, and competing in many of the world’s leading IMOCA events.
Alongside her sporting achievements, Sam has become synonymous with the Initiatives-Cœur project, combining elite offshore racing with fundraising for children requiring life-saving heart surgery. In 2026, after leading the programme through several successful campaigns, she handed over the helm to Violette Dorange. She continues to support the team as coach and skipper advisor, helping to ensure a successful transition and optimise the programme’s future performance.
At the same time, Sam has joined the DMG MORI Sailing Team, with her sights set on The Ocean Race Atlantic 2026 and The Ocean Race 2027, continuing her career at the forefront of international offshore sailing.
